Note to those who would like to work
a team:
If you have sent in an application to work a team this past year. The apps are
not carried over from year to year so if you would like to work a team next
year, send in your applications now. The applications are on the
Aldersgate website with the exact
dates etc.
De Colores, Brothers and Sisters
in Christ,
Welcome, welcome, welcome
to new babe chicks,
Ed and Betty Miles, David and Suzanne Henclewski and Dave Samuelson! We pray
that your weekends were awesome and that your fourth days are rewarding!
Our Homecoming
on March 30th was terrific. Dennis Horton gave us a wonderful picture of the
early days of Emmaus in South Lake County. Kathy Rhodes, Wes Dickey, Chris
Gourdie and Nicole Kellogg led us in singing. We enjoyed a feast of BBQ and a
host of fabulous side dishes. We participated in the Seder meal with Nancy Faine
as she led us in communion. We laughed at a rousing rendition of “Who’s
Deloris?” with Chris Dwyer as a truly memorable Deloris. Everyone enjoyed
looking at our family tree. And, best of all, we had the pleasure of
fellowshipping with one another! Those of you didn’t get to the homecoming
missed an excellent event. We hope to see you at the next one!
Hosts Needed!
We need hosts for our gathering on August 31st. The hosts are responsible for
arranging for music, communion and child care, and they need to
provide drinks. The FUMC social hall has been reserved for the afternoon, but if
you’d like to plan a gathering elsewhere instead, that would be great. We’ve had
some terrific gatherings in people’s homes, at the Family Life Center in
Leesburg and at Park Pals. If you have questions about hosting a gathering or
you know that you’d like to host the June gathering, please give Barbara Eyerly
a call as soon as possible. Anyone who has hosted a gathering in the past will
be happy to help you.
Walks.
The next walks are in August and September. We’ve heard of several folks who are
ready to make their walks to Emmaus. Sponsors, please get them signed up soon.
Also, team members are still needed for all of the fall walks. Please go to the
Aldersgate website and complete an application soon.
Emmaus Booklets.
We’ve ordered some Emmaus booklets for your use. “What Is Emmaus?” is a very
informative explanation of the weekend to be lent to prospective pilgrims;
“Coming Down From the Mountain” is an uplifting book about the fourth day for
new pilgrims; and “Sponsorship” gives you information that will help when you
sponsor a pilgrim. Let me know if you want one of the books and I’ll get it to
you. If you’d like to help defray the cost, please give me $3.00 for each book
you’d like to have. Thanks.
Annual Conference.
Each year, the Emmaus communities sponsor a booth at Annual Conference. If you’d
like to man the booth for an hour or two, please get in touch with Xan Logan
De Colores
Barbara
Family Album:
Our South Lake Emmaus Community has been going
strong for over 20 years now, and we’re trying to create a Family Album, showing
how the community has grown over the years. Please answer the following
questions and send me your answers via email or snail mail as soon as possible.
Name? Walk number and location? Who were your sponsors? Names of people
you’ve sponsored? If you haven’t sent in your information yet, please do so as
soon as possible. We’d like to have it available for the Homecoming next month.
Green
Agape:
Our South Lake Emmaus Green Agape (dues)
of $10 per person are used
for partial scholarships for both pilgrims and team members to attend Emmaus and
Chrysalis weekends and to help defray community expenses. Please send a check
made out to me for your 2008 dues to Barbara Eyerly as soon as possible.
The Emmaus Community has volunteered to sponsor
the FUMC
New Member Classes
in October. This will give us the opportunity to introduce The Walk to Emmaus
to newcomers to the church.
UPCOMING WALKS
Please mark your
calendars.
TEAMS &
WEEKENDS
The
upcoming weekends need team members. Keep in mind when applying to work a
team that the team actually begins forming 4-6 months before the actual weekend.
It is not too early to submit your applications for a 2008 team. If you
haven’t worked a team or it has been a long time, don’t worry. You will be
abundantly blessed. Submitting your application is easier than ever.
Go to the website and enter your name, walk number, address etc. Your info
will be saved for the next time and you won’t have to enter it again except to
update any address changes you have etc.
SPANISH LANGUAGE WEEKENDS
The Spanish Language weekends
also need our prayers and agape support. The inside teams for both weekends are
Spanish/English speaking, some have come from out of the country. Everything
inside the conference room will be done in Spanish. Many of the outside team,
a.k.a. angels are not Spanish speaking so if you are interested in helping don’t
let that deter you. This is very exciting. These are the first Spanish
Language weekends to be held in Florida.
PILGRIMS – SPECIAL NOTE
The most recently held weekends were “light” on
pilgrims. So far there is ample room for pilgrims in upcoming walks. Please sponsor
someone who God has led to you or you to! Is this person(s) an active member(s)
in their church? Are they ready to take a ‘next step’ in their walk with
Christ? Remember, The Walk to Emmaus is not for everyone. Pray before you ask
them. We will be having a ‘sponsorship’ info session soon. But if you have any
questions please just ask.
CHRYSALIS
NEWS
These
teens and teams need our support in the form of agape, letters, and attendance
at candlelight and at closings. The Chrysalis board is also looking for
individuals, communities and groups who would like to donate for scholarships.
At
the website you
will find a wealth of info regarding schedules, application forms, the calendar
of upcoming walks and other information about the Aldersgate Emmaus & Chrysalis
Communities.
All Chrysalis correspondence, donations, walk applications and
team applications should be mailed to: Chrysalis Registrar P.O. Box 491918,
Leesburg Florida 34749
If you have a Chrysalis question please call Michele Countryman.
Any high
school student aged 15--18 who has committed themselves to Christ, is welcome to
attend Chrysalis Flight. Any college aged young adult aged 18 - 25 who has
committed themselves to Christ is welcome to attend Chrysalis Journey. Any adult
who has been through the Walk to Emmaus (or similar approved program) or any
youth who has been through Chrysalis can sponsor a youth to attend.
Statistics show that 80% of Christian adults became Christians BEFORE age 18. In
this world of confusion, our Christian teens are attacked on all sides by
non-Christian values and negative influences.
Give the
teen you love the opportunity to experience the love of Christ and the joy of
Christian fellowship on a Chrysalis weekend this year!
They will be ETERNALLY GRATEFUL.
If you would like more info on this great
opportunity for our youth go to
