ALDERSGATE
EMMAUS
South Lake Community News - September 2007
Hello Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Our next gathering is Sunday September 30th. The FUMC social hall is reserved for 12:30. Bill & Barbara Eyerly will be our hosts. Please bring guests, anyone who is interested in attending a walk to Emmaus. When you join us, please wear your name tag; bring a large covered dish to share and your table service.
UPDATE: The “Reunion Gathering" has been postponed until the spring. Stay tuned for more info.
TEAMS & WEEKENDS
Thank you so much to those who supported the recent Emmaus weekends in Leesburg and the Chrysalis weekend recently held at FUMC, Clermont. Please continue to support the teams and most importantly the pilgrims of the upcoming men’s and women’s walks. You can do this through prayer, letters, agape, and your presence at the ceremonies on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Don Patton will be serving on the Men’s team in October. At this time we are unaware of any Pilgrims from our community who are attending. BUT: Special note: There is still room for pilgrims on the Oct. /Nov. weekends. The list is only about half full. So if you have a potential pilgrim in mind get them signed up and bring them on the 30th. You can print out the pilgrim’s application and the sponsors form from the website.
Also the upcoming weekends need team members. Keep in mind when applying to work a team that the team actually begins forming 4-6 months before the actual weekend. It is not too early to submit your applications for a 2008 team. Right now there are not enough applications in for the weekends to be held the beginning of the year. If you haven’t worked a team or it has been a long time, don’t worry. You will be abundantly blessed. Submitting your application is easier than ever. Go to the website and enter your name, walk number, address etc. Your info will be saved for the next time and you won’t have to enter it again except to update any address changes you have etc.
You may also sign up for the prayer clock at www.aldersgateemmaus.org.
SPANISH LANGUAGE WEEKENDS
The Spanish Language weekends also need our prayers and agape support. The inside teams for both weekends are Spanish/English speaking, some have come from out of the country. Everything inside the conference room will be done in Spanish. Many of the outside team, a.k.a. angels are not Spanish speaking so if you are interested in helping don’t let that deter you. This is very exciting. These are the first Spanish Language weekends to be held in Florida.

PILGRIMS – SPECIAL NOTE – (again)
The most recently held weekends were “light” on pilgrims. So far there is ample room for pilgrims in October. Please sponsor someone who God has led to you or you to! Is this person(s) an active member(s) in their church? Are they ready to take a ‘next step’ in their walk with Christ? Remember, The Walk to Emmaus is not for everyone. Pray before you ask them. We will be having a ‘sponsorship’ info session soon. But if you have any questions please just ask.
CHRYSALIS NEWS
The
girl’s Chrysalis weekend was successfully held at First United Methodist
Church on September 7th-9th. A huge Thank You to the
community who showed what agape love is all about. Please mark your calendar
for October 12-14 for the boys, again at FUMC, we
ask for your support in prayer (sign up on the website), agape (65 pieces needed
per walk) and presence (sendoff is
8:00 Friday morning; candlelight 7:30 p.m. Sat. night and Closing is at 3:30
Sunday afternoon). If you would like to send agape for Chrysalis the daily
themes are Faith, Hope and Love.
These teens and teams need our support in the form of agape, letters, and attendance at candlelight and at closings. The Chrysalis board is also looking for individuals, communities and groups who would like to donate for scholarships.
At the website you will find a wealth of info regarding schedules, application forms, the calendar of upcoming walks and other information about the Aldersgate Emmaus & Chrysalis Communities.
All Chrysalis correspondence, donations, walk applications and team applications should be mailed to: Chrysalis Registrar P.O. Box 491918, Leesburg Florida 34749 If you have a Chrysalis question please call Michele Countryman.
GREEN AGAPE – (DUES)
Our community collects “Green Agape” in form of dues to help with scholarships for pilgrims, newsletter expenses and such. In the year 2007 only a handful of folks have paid their dues. It is $10 per person. If you have not contributed this year please send your check to Nancy Faine. Of course Babe Chicks are exempt for the first year!
A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD REP
As my term as your board rep is winding down, I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed it and the three years flew by. It seems like just a few months ago I went to my first meeting with Janet Byrd. Looking back now they (the rest of the board) probably wishes I had stayed that quiet lady that Janet brought with her that day! The Aldersgate Emmaus Board is working on some big things for God. Let me tell you some exciting things are in the works. This is truly a dedicated, God loving group of people. Many of the changes and improvements that have come and will be coming are from one person’s inspiration from God; to make the experience better, to make the team experience better and most importantly to reach farther to touch those folks that aren’t aware of Emmaus. The pilgrims and the ‘future church leaders’ is what Emmaus is all about and the ladies and gentleman that I have had the pleasure to work with are a true testament to that. They show every day what agape love is all about.
PRAYER REQUESTS
As you all know a true Angel on Earth was called home this week. Many of us will miss the big smile and the sparkling blue eyes of Faith Myers. The friends, family, Emmaus/Chrysalis team members, pilgrims, the children she cared for, and even those she encountered in her last few months, the list goes on and on; who were fortunate enough to know her, work alongside her, be served by her, witness her love for Jesus and for her family and friends will be blessed by her for a long time. From the mouth of a little person in our community; “She’s a real angel now.” Please continue to keep Mark, Brendon and Sean in your thoughts and prayers.
De Colores,
Gary & Xan Logan
